CORRECTED-UPDATE 2-TSMC says can make next generation chips without ASML's new machine
Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC does not necessarily need to use ASML's next generation "High NA EUV" machines for an upcoming generation of chip manufacturing technology called A16, which is under development for the second half of 2026, an executive said on Tuesday. The High NA lithography tools are expected to help shrink chip designs by up to two-thirds, but chipmakers must weigh that benefit against a higher cost and whether ASML's older tech may be more reliable and good enough. Speaking at a conference in Amsterdam, Kevin Zhang said that it is possible that the company's A16 plants could be designed to accommodate the technology, but that is not certain.

Blackstone-led consortium eyes snacks business of India's Haldiram's, sources say
A consortium including Blackstone, Singapore state fund GIC and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) is in talks with India's Haldiram's for a majority stake in its snacks business at a valuation of up to $8.5 billion, two sources with direct knowledge said. Haldiram's, a household name in India, has more than 150 restaurants selling local food, sweets and western cuisine.

Argentina raises domestic bioethanol prices, lowers biodiesel
Argentine authorities on Monday hiked domestic market prices for bioethanol while lowering those for biodiesel, as the country's official gazette set new rules for the fuels, which are mandatory for mixing with gasoline in the South American country. Argentina's Energy Secretariat, a branch of the economy ministry, lowered the minimum purchase price for biodiesel, to 938.540 pesos per metric ton (about $1,062), down from a previous 940.334 pesos. Argentina, which is battling sky-high inflation and soaring poverty amid its worst economic crisis in decades, is a major global producer of biofuels, particularly biodiesel, and regularly raises prices for the domestic market.

Uber to acquire Foodpanda's Taiwan unit from Delivery Hero for $950M in cash
Uber Technologies announced Tuesday that it will buy the Taiwan unit of Delivery Hero's Foodpanda for $950 million in cash. The deal is part of Uber Eats' strategy to expand in Asia, specifically by strengthening its position in Taiwan. On the other hand, it also underscores Delivery Hero's ongoing retreat from that same market: the sale is coming at the same time that Delivery Hero has been trying to sell off a package of its other operations across Southeast Asia.

Apple set to launch VR headset outside US: report
STORY: Apple is getting ready to launch its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset in markets outside the U.S. That’s according to a report by Bloomberg on Monday. It says the tech giant has flown hundreds of staff from its overseas stores to California for training. The workers involved come from Germany, France, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and China - hinting that these may be the first international markets for the device. Bloomberg says the overseas launch could come after the firm’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. That could be timely for Apple, which is looking for a sales boost amid waning demand for its iPhones. But, at $3,499, many question whether the Vision Pro can ever be a mass-market device. It was unveiled in June last year, and hit U.S. store shelves in February. The headset allows users to blend reality with immersive video. After an initial surge of sales, analysts say demand for the gadget has since tapered off. There was no comment on the latest reports from Apple. Back in March, Chinese media quoted Chief Executive Tim Cook as saying the Vision Pro could go on sale there this year.

Oil dips as U.S. data suggests inflation stickier than expected
LONDON (Reuters) -Oil prices edged lower on Tuesday, after U.S. data suggested inflation remains sticky, while OPEC maintained its demand forecast for the year. Brent crude futures fell 55 cents to $82.81 a barrel at 1339 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures lost 67 cents to $78.45 a barrel. On Tuesday, U.S. producer prices increased more than expected in April amid strong gains in the costs of services and goods, indicating that inflation remained elevated early in the second quarter.

RPT-Russia's refined oil product exports to Singapore to hit highest this year in May, traders say
Russia's exports of naphtha to Singapore are on track to rise to their highest level this year in May as Russian refineries recover from drone attacks, traders and analysts estimated, with the trend poised to continue as more capacity comes online. Singapore imports of Russian naphtha, a key ingredient for making petrochemicals such as plastics and textile fibres, will rise to about 415,000 metric tons in May, LSEG Research estimated, while consultancy FGE expects nearly 500,000 tons. "The refinery (attack) impact wanes off through May and June, which is why we may expect higher exports from Russia," said Armaan Ashraf, global head of natural gas liquids at FGE.

South Korea signs agreement with AliExpress, Temu on product safety

UPDATE 4-Delivery Hero in $1.25 bln deal with Uber for foodpanda Taiwan sale, investment
Uber announced on Tuesday a $1.25 billion deal to take over Delivery Hero's foodpanda business in Taiwan and buy new shares in the German firm in a move that would boost liquidity of the delivery specialist grappling with rising competition in Asia. Asia has become Delivery Hero's biggest market after its $4 billion deal in South Korea in 2019 but the company has been trying to divest some of its assets in the region to improve profitability. While food delivery services in Asia have largely rebounded from a slowdown following the pandemic boom, many firms are now grappling with thin margins as they spend heavily in offering discounts and promotions to retain consumers who have become wary of rising inflation and cost of living.
