BENGALURU (Reuters) -Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra said on Thursday it would invest $1.44 billion over the next three years in its electric vehicle (EV) unit to boost growth, even though it is now also closely looking at hybrid technology. Mahindra, India's third-biggest EV maker, currently sells just one model, the XUV400, but it is slated to launch a new range of EVs next year. "At this point in time, we feel good about the focus on EVs," Mahindra Managing Director Anish Shah said in a post-earnings press conference.

Japanese automaker Honda revs up on EVs, aiming for lucrative US, China markets
Japanese automaker Honda reaffirmed its commitment to electric vehicles Thursday, saying it will invest 10 trillion yen ($65 billion) through fiscal 2031 to deliver EV models around the world, including the U.S. and China. “Honda has not changed its belief that EVs are the most effective solution in the area of small mobility products such as motorcycles and automobiles,” the Tokyo-based company said in a statement. The so-called “0 Series,” a key part of Honda’s EV strategy, will be a totally new EV series created from “zero,” Chief Executive Toshihiro Mibe told reporters in an online presentation.

Tesla must face vehicle owners' lawsuit over self-driving claims
A U.S. judge on Wednesday rejected Tesla's bid to dismiss a lawsuit accusing Elon Musk's electric car company of misleading owners into believing that their vehicles could soon have self-driving capabilities. The proposed nationwide class action accused Tesla and Musk of having since 2016 falsely advertised Autopilot and other self-driving technology as functional or "just around the corner," inducing drivers to pay more for their vehicles. U.S. District Judge Rita Lin in San Francisco said owners could pursue negligence and fraud-based claims, to the extent they relied on Tesla's representations regarding vehicles' hardware and ability to drive coast-to-coast across the U.S.
