Snoop Dogg to receive icon award at BET awards show

Snoop Dogg will be officially recognized as an iconic figure in hip hop at the 11th annual BET Hip Hop Awards.

Snoop will receive the "I Am Hip Hop Icon Award" Saturday for transcending time and rap trends, and being a lasting influencer in the hip hop community, says BET.

The artist will receive his award Saturday during a taped event. The BET Hip Hop Awards air on BET October 4.

These days, when he's not rapping, Snoop is dining alongside Martha Stewart, his co-host in a new VH1 show called "Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party."

The series is currently in production and pairs two unlikely party hosts, who welcome different celebrity dinner guests each week. The first episode will feature appearances by 50 Cent, Robin Thicke, Bella Thorne and DJ Khaled.

Meanwhile social media sensation DJ Khaled will host the BET awards for the first time, with performances by Desiigner, Gucci Mane, T.I., Travis Scott and Young Thug and Snoop himself.
