Singapore Business Owner’s Guide To Key Dates and Holidays In 2024

Being a business owner means that you need to have a clear sense of the rhyme and rhythm of business operations as well as the pulse of society. This means taking note of public holidays (which affect not just your customers but also your employees), other observances that are not necessarily public holidays (such as the eve of public holidays), as well as other events.

Here’s a handy calendar of events that includes all the key dates and public holidays in 2024 to note.

Public Holidays

2024 has a total of 5 possible long weekends. Businesses should keep this in mind when planning employee rosters and schedule client events or customer promotions accordingly.

1 January 2024 – Monday – New Year’s Day (Monday, 1 January 2023, will be a public holiday) [long weekend]

10 February 2024 – Saturday – Chinese New Year

11 February 2024 – Sunday – Chinese New Year (The following Monday, 12 February 2024, will be a public holiday) [long weekend]

29 March 2024 – Friday – Good Friday [*long weekend]

10 April 2024 – Wednesday – Hari Raya Puasa

1 May 2024 – Wednesday – Labour Day

22 May 2024 – Wednesday – Vesak Day

17 June 2024 – Monday– Hari Raya Haji [*long weekend]

9 August 2024 – Friday– National Day [*long weekend]

31 October 2024 – Thursday– Deepavali

25 December 2024 – Wednesday– Christmas Day

*long weekend for those on 5-day workweek/ take their day off-in-lieu on the Friday or Monday

For eligible employees, working on a public holiday typically means an extra day of pay. If employees are entitled to overtime pay for working beyond normal working hours, or for work done on a rest day, they should also be remunerated accordingly.

School Holidays

Another period that businesses should take note of, outside of public holidays is the school holidays. Not only will it affect students, but it also affects your employees who are parents, as well as general customer traffic.

09 March to 17 March 2024 – March School Holidays

25 May to 23 June 2024 – June School Holidays

30 June 2024 – Sunday – Youth Day (Monday, 1 July 2024, will be a school holiday) [long weekend]

09 August 2024 – Friday– National Day

30 August 2024 – Friday – Teachers’ Day

31 August to 08 September 2024 – September School Holidays

4 October 2024 – Friday – Children’s Day (for primary school only) [long weekend]

16 November to 31 December 2024 – December School Holidays (for primary and secondary school only)

23 November to 31 December 2024 – December School Holidays (for post-secondary year 1 only)

30 November to 31 December 2024 – December School Holidays (for post-secondary year 2 and 3 only)

Additionally, there are days that are not holidays but are still typically observed by Singaporeans or hold some level of public attention.

Due Dates For Tax Filing For Businesses

Additionally, businesses also have annual obligations that should be part of their business cycle or calendar of events.

31 January – File GST Return (period ending in Dec) – for businesses filing GST return, quarterly filing

31 March – File Estimated Chargeable Income (Dec year-end)*

15 April – Individual Income Tax (Paper Form) – for Sole Proprietors and Partnerships

18 April – Individual Income Tax – for Sole Proprietors and Partnerships

30 April – File GST Return (period ending in Mar) – for businesses filing GST return, quarterly filing

30 June – File Estimated Chargeable Income (Mar year-end)*

31 July – File GST Return (period ending in Jun) – for businesses filing GST return, quarterly filing

30 September – File Estimated Chargeable Income (Jun year-end)*

31 October – File GST Return (period ending in Sep) – for businesses filing GST return, quarterly filing

30 November – File Corporate Income Tax Return (Form C-S/ Form C-S (Lite)/ Form C) – For Companies

31 December – File Estimated Chargeable Income (Sep year-end)*

* Estimated Chargeable Income is filed annually within 3 months of the company’s financial year unless exempted
