Singapore 5th most expensive place in Asia Pacific for business travel

Tourists visit the famous Mer-lion while the business-district skyline looms against an azure sky on February 25, 2015, in Singapore, again ranked the globe's most business-friendly jurisdiction in a World Bank published October 27

Singapore is the fifth most expensive location in Asia Pacific for business travel, while Hong Kong is the most expensive, according to data research provider ECA International.

Business travel in Singapore is 20 per cent cheaper than in Hong Kong, thanks to the comparatively lower costs of hotel accommodation, which usually accounts for the bulk of any daily allowance, ECA said in a statement on Wednesday (31 August).

The survey of locations in Asia Pacific also considered cost of meals, costs of drinks, laundry, taxi transport and daily essentials.

Still, the hotel room rates in Singapore are among the most expensive out of the locations surveyed, ECA said.

Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, is the second most expensive city due to a shortage of suitable accommodation, which gives rise to high hotel room rates. This is followed by Seoul, South Korea, in third place and Tokyo, Japan, in fourth place.
