Shanghai's Mailman Group Launches New Fund, Looks to Invest in Asian Startups

Shanghai-based online media company Mailman Group launched its startup fund a couple of days ago to help aspiring Asian startups expand their business throughout the region. Called Mailman Ventures, it’s designed to tackle the issue of Asia lacking in series A funds in the region - between $0.5 million to $2 million - and Mailman is looking to fill that gap by supporting the startups as seed partners through money and mentorship. The new fund will come into action in 2013.

Andrew Collins, the CEO of Mailman Group states:

Mailman Ventures is aimed to support young entrepreneurs with disruptive ideas, by injecting cash, plugging holes in strategy, positioning and branding - and most importantly kick-starting their road to success.

Mailman itself has 13 years of experience and success in online media. Recently the company collaborated with a Chinese branding company for western celebrities, China Branding Group, to launch the country’s first international celebrity entertainment portal Fanstang.com. The launch was supported by celebrities like Paris Hilton and Dwayne Wade. Mailman has recently helped many football teams with social marketing, such as aiding English football club Tottenham Hotspur in reaching 100,000 fans on Sina and Tencent Weibo.

The company is hoping to find and invest in up to three new ventures by the end of 2013. For more information and to apply, you can check here.
