SGX urges greater shareholder activism against errant listed companies

Corporate governance compliance is under review.

Singapore Exchange's Chief Regulatory Officer Tan Boon Gin called for greater shareholder activism among institutional investors in the city-state, according to a report by Reuters.

The local bourse is reviewing compliance along its listed companies with corporate governance rules, the report said, as the SGX seeks to boost its credentials as a front-line regulator.

"We cannot increase the percentage of institutional investors overnight. But we can increase the level of shareholder activism by institutional investors," Tan said.
