SGX Research: Fledgling Index’s Five Best-Performing New Constituents Avg 21% YTD Gain

  • In FTSE’s latest semi-annual review of its ST Index series, 20 component stocks were added to the FTSE ST Fledgling Index, while eight were removed. After changes that took effect on 19 March, the Fledgling Index now comprises 219 stocks, with a combined market capitalisation of $25.7 billion.

  • In the 2018 year-to-date, the five best-performing inclusions to the FTSE ST Fledgling Index were: APAC Realty (36%), Blumont Group (33.3%), Cityneon Holdings (14.4%), Sarine Technologies (13%) and Debao Property Development (8.7%). They averaged a price gain of 21.1% over the period.

  • With a weighting of 2.4%, new addition Sarine Technologies is the fourth-largest constituent of the FTSE ST Fledgling Index, after AEM Holdings (3% weight), Sunningdale Tech (2.6% weight) and Creative Technology (2.5% weight).

The FTSE ST Fledgling Index consists of Mainboard-listed stocks that do not meet size criteria for inclusion in the FTSE ST Small Cap Index. After index constituent changes that took effect on 19 March, the FTSE ST Fledgling Index now comprises 219 stocks, with an average market capitalisation of about $117 million. The combined market capitalisation of the Index stands at $25.7 billion.

Top 10 Index Constituents

The 10 largest constituents of the FTSE ST Fledgling Index by weight account for 14% of the Index’s total market capitalisation. These 10 constituents have posted an average price gain of 71.4% in the YTD, bringing their average price gain over the last 12 months to 97.5%.

During the recent review of the FTSE ST Index series, Sarine Technologies was the latest addition to the Fledgling Index. Sarine Technologies, which listed on SGX Mainboard in April 2005, develops advanced evaluation, planning, processing and finishing systems for diamond and gemstone production. With a weighting of 2.4%, Sarine Technologies is the fourth-largest constituent of the Index, after AEM Holdings with a 3% weight, Sunningdale Tech with a 2.6% weight, and Creative Technology with 2.5% weighting.
