How You Can Save Money On Computer Software

Have you bought a PC recently only to find out that you have to spend extra money buying important softwares that you cannot do without? Rather than to spend even more money or turn to the pirated alternative to get these necessities, we bring you 3 simple tips to help you save some money.

1. Save $189 on your MSOffice with LibreOffice

We are all familiar with Microsoft Office (MSOffice). It has been synonymous with PC users for over a decade. MSWord, MSExcel, MSPowerpoint are heavily relied upon by users for study, work and play. It costs from $189 (for the student edition) to $299 (for the Home & Business edition).

Enter, LibreOffice. It would satisfy most users’ functional requirements that they get from MSOffice. LibreOffice is a free and open source Office Suite. There is a fresh and still version. The fresh version offers the latest features but might be lesser stable than the still version. It offers a writer (similar to MSWord), Impress (MSPowerpoint), Calc (MSExcel) as well as other stuff. Given its compatibility with MSOffice, it represents an all round solution in doing away with the pricy MSOffice.

2. Save $50 on your Antivirus with Avast or Qihoo

The internet is not a secure place, with computer being vulnerable to attack from various types of viruses, malware, spyware and spam from hackers. Hence, it is vital to protect the computer with antivirus software. With a wide array of antivirus software promising protection from different kinds of malicious attacks, it can easily cost around $50 for a simple good one.

Instead of buying one, you can use the plethora of free antivirus options available online. Alternatives that come to mind are freemiums such as Avast Free Antivirus and Qihoo.

Avast has been in the market for over 25 years and has been favoured by over 230 million users. It offers good anti-virus protection, has high ratings in detecting malicious URL blocking tests and offers a simple design interface. As a freemium product, you would be receiving pop-ups urging you to get the premium version for full protection. However, for basic users, Avast free antivirus offers good protection and in some instances, better than some paid versions.

The other is China based Qihoo. Though Qihoo is a relatively new company, it has over 500 million users for its Internet Security products. It too offers a simple interface and good virus detection rate. It has been gaining popularity with the western community for its good virus detection and deletion rate. Currently an underdog compared to the more established players, it has huge potential given its large user base in China.
