Blade Runner 2049 and La La Land actor Ryan Gosling is adding an entirely new movie to his intriguing catalogue: Ken in a new Barbie movie.

As reported by Deadline, the actor is in final negotiations to play the famous doll in Greta Gerwig's adaptation, which will see Margot Robbie play Barbie herself.

Warner Bros has been pursuing Gosling for this role for a while, but he was initially too busy. But because the pre-production has taken so long, the actor now has enough of a gap in his schedule to do it. With his casting, the hope is apparently to get the ball rolling and start filming early in 2022.

Barbie's live-action big-screen journey has been a ling one, with original plans involving Amy Schumer as a more representative, body-positive Barbie.

Now The Suicide Squad's Margot Robbie is playing Barbie with Lady Bird and Little Women's Greta Gerwig in charge, which makes us wonder what kind of left-field and possibly meta take the film will have.

One thing Gosling has been busy with is filming The Gray Man, an action thriller from the directors and writers behind Avengers: Endgame. He'll be starring alongside No Time to Die's Ana de Armas, EastEnders' Rob Kazinsky, Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page, Love Actually's Billy Bob Thornton and Captain America himself, Chris Evans as a "unique" villain.

Perhaps not surprisingly considering the people behind it, it's a massively expensive production, becoming the priciest of all of Netflix's original movies.

Gosling is also meant to be leading a new version of The Wolfman, but we've not heard anything about it for a while.
