Ruling pending on 2 Dallas Love Field gates

Dallas officials plan ruling this week on which airline gets 2 disputed gates at Love Field

DALLAS (AP) -- Dallas officials expect to decide this week which airline gets two gates at Love Field that American Airlines must give up since its merger with US Airways.

The CEOs of Southwest Airlines and Virgin America attended a Dallas City Council meeting Wednesday. Council members held most of their discussions behind closed doors.

The U.S. Justice Department says Virgin America should get the gates to increase competition at Love Field, where Dallas-based Southwest is the dominant carrier.

Council member Scott Griggs says the city shouldn't do anything to anger the Justice Department.

But Southwest says it should get the gates because it would offer more flights and create more jobs.

The city manager, A.C. Gonzalez, has the final say. Gonzalez says he aims to decide by week's end.
