Marketing managers – such as those responsible for running major campaigns for blockbuster films and TV – have the best job in Britain, according to research released in January 2018.

Marketing managers can earn an average of £42,000 a year and are in high demand, with more than 1,500 current job openings, according to jobs site Glassdoor.

It put together a list of the best jobs in the UK for 2018 based on three factors – average annual base salary, the current number of job openings, and job satisfaction, according to ratings shared by UK-based employees over the past 12 months. All of the jobs listed were given a ranking out of five. Here are the ten best jobs to have this year - is yours one of them?

1. Marketing manager – score: 4.5

2. Operations manager – score: 4.4

  • Job satisfaction rating: 4.0

  • Median base salary: £42,000

An operations manager's responsibilities vary, but generally include monitoring and analysing the current system of production to check it is effective, and oversee the quality of outputs.

3. Audit manager – score: 4.4

  • Job satisfaction rating: 4.3

  • Number of job openings: 420

  • Median base salary: £55,000

An audit manager is an accountancy role responsible for organising and overseeing the auditing process, often managing a team of auditors.

4. Finance manager – score: 4.4

  • Median base salary: £60,900

The role of a finance manager can vary enormously, but key tasks may include managing a company's financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems, producing accurate financial reports to specific deadlines, and managing budgets.

Product management is a business function, focused on maximising business value from a product. Product managers should be concerned with optimising a product to achieve the business goals while getting the biggest return on investment.

6. HR manager – score: 4.3

Contracts managers oversee projects from the start through to completion, ensuring that work is completed on time and within budget.

8. Commercial manager – score: 4.2
