Almost 50 Red Lobster restaurant locations are shuttering in 21 states

Red LobsterRed Lobster is closing at least 48 locations around the country — a change that will affect 21 states.
News of the closures was first reported by CNN.
TAGeX Brands’ CEO Neal Sherman shared in a LinkedIn post about how a significant number of Red Lobster locations will be closing. His company will handle liquidating restaurant equipment via auctions.
The auctions are the company’s “largest restaurant liquidation ever,” according to Sherman. Items like furniture, fixtures and equipment will all be auctioned.

The news may not come as a shock to some customers. Red Lobster was considering a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in April, sources with knowledge on the matter told Bloomberg at the time.
With their current leases and labor costs, the restaurant company has been finding it difficult to make money and even sought advice from commercial law firm King & Spalding in order to figure out how to restructure to cut costs, the outlet also reported.
