Q&M opens private dentistry college in Singapore; aims to produce 'Super GPs'

SINGAPORE (Oct 17): Q&M Dental Group on Thursday opened Singapore’s first private dentistry college offering graduate diploma studies in clinical dentistry.

The college will offer nine modules, covering courses in patient management & ethics in dentistry; orthodontics; implant dentistry; endodontics, prosthodontics/restorative dentistry; CAD CAM & digital dentistry; periodontics, oral & maxillofacial surgery and laser dentistry.

Located at City Square Mall, classes for the first intake of the Q&M College of Dentistry will commence on Oct 21.

Q&M says the college was borne out of a desire to bolster the skill set of dentists in Singapore and produce “Super GPs” – general-practitioner dentists with the upgraded ability to perform procedures across various advanced skill sets.

“By creating a new generation of dentists who possess not just essential skills, but an added expertise in advanced surgical skills, we hope to revolutionise the landscape of dentistry in Singapore and make it a hub for dental health in the region, and perhaps even in the world,” says Dr Ng Chin Siau, Q&M’s CEO.

The group on Thursday also awarded nine students with scholarships, as part of its commitment to give at least half a million dollars a year in scholarships to local BDS students.

The scholarship aims to help NUS Dentistry students pay their dental school fees and will add to the group’s future talent pool.

“These nine scholars come from various backgrounds but are driven by a common passion for dentistry,” Ng says.

Depending on the grants received, the scholars will serve as dentists at Q&M for a minimum duration of two years.

Shares in Q&M closed half a cent lower at 51 cents on Thursday.
