Property agent jailed for rental scam

Property agent Goh Tzan En has been sentenced to 24 months in jail for cheating 26 victims in a rental scam, media reports said.

The 49-year-old faced 27 charges of cheating, involving $91,474. One of those victims was a 59-year-old Singaporean who was made to believe that he had to pay an additional $5,000 in order to purchase an HDB flat in Jurong West Avenue 1.

A district court heard that the majority of those duped by Goh, who was working at ERA Realty at the time, were foreigners who responded to his online advertisements on renting flats.

Goh admitted to nine counts of cheating, while the remaining 18 were taken into consideration by the court during sentencing.
