Yahoo Finance 'Peaky Blinders' Sixth Season Will Be Its Last, Say Creators
Peaky Blinders will end after the forthcoming sixth season, its writers and production teams have confirmed.
We had been expecting another two seasons, seeing as that's what head honcho, creator and writer Steven Knight has said on a few occasions, with the intention of taking the Shelby story up to the outbreak of war in September 1939. However, we now know that we've only got one more season with the Birmingham crime family.
But, good news! The same update said that production and shooting has begun on season six at last! You're still thinking about the bad news aren't you.
"Peaky is back and with a bang," said Knight. "After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form."
Executive producer Caryn Mandabach added: "Along with our wonderful, supportive, partners at BBC and Netflix, we have been working diligently to ensure we can get Peaky safely back into production; the safety of our cast and crew is always our priority. Thank you to all the Peaky fans who have been so unwaveringly supportive and patient. Steve’s scripts are incredible and mark the end of an epic story that has entranced audiences since it first started in 2013, but the world of Peaky Blinders will most definitely live on."
Quite what 'another form' means is up for debate. It might be a subtle sign that the mooted Peaky Blinders film, presumably set during World War Two, is a goer. It might be a subtle sign that we're going to get another basically fine video game. Who knows!
