Paris Déco Off, Maison & Objet: Five exhibitions for design fans heading to Paris

January 18-23, the French capital will also be the capital of interior design and decoration, as industry professionals and design buffs head to the Maison & Objet trade fair and the Paris Déco Off fringe festival. After checking out new trends and creations at the events, a host of exhibitions await design fans in and around the city.

"Bring it On - Danish Contemporary Jewelry" until January 21, 2018, at La Maison du Danemark
Offering a snapshot of the current jewelry scene in Denmark, "Bring It On" brings together 26 contemporary jewelry artists and presents a selection of jewelry crossing between ornament, design object and body art. Curated by Art Jewellery Copenhagen, which seeks to promote the art of contemporary jewelry-making internationally, the show explores various aspects of jewelry: is it merely decorative? Is it art or is it an investment?

"Beyond Seeing" January 18-28, 2018, at WIP La Villette
Goethe-Institut is celebrating Paris fashion week and Franco-German Week with an exhibition called "Beyond Seeing." The show aims to foster innovation in the worlds of design and fashion by appealing to senses other than sight. The French capital's Goethe Institut invited a team of design students to work with blind and partially sighted people to explore fashion beyond sight, focusing on hearing, smell, touch and how the body fills space.

"Constance Guisset Design, Actio!" until March 11, 2018, at Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris
Until March 11, 2018, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is giving carte blanche to designer and scenographer Constance Guisset for a retrospective of 10 years of design under her own name and for brands like Petite Friture, Moustache, Matière Grise and Louis Vuitton.

"L'Expérience de la Couleur" until April 2, 2018, at Musée National de la Céramique, Sèvres
The famous Sèvres ceramics works on the outskirts of Paris is exploring color, notably through its perception and interpretation by artists. The show features nearly 400 works, with pieces by Ettore Sottsass, Andrea Branzi and Pierre Charpin.

"Azzedine Alaia: Je Suis Couturier" January 22 to June 10, 2018, 18 rue de la Verrerie
As the Paris Design Off festival ends, an exhibition celebrating the late fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa opens at 18 rue de la Verrerie, where he previously lived and worked. The show will feature 35 major pieces by the designer, selected by Olivier Saillard.
