Nottingham Forest: How the Premier League table now looks after four-point deduction confirmed

Nottingham Forest’s Premier League relegation fears have significantly deepened after the club were handed a points deduction on Monday.

Forest have been deducted four points for breaching the top-flight’s profitability and sustainability rules, leaving them in a fierce fight to avoid a first return to the Championship since 2021/22.

In a statement, the club insisted that they were “extremely disappointed” with the ruling of an independent commission and “dismayed” by the “tone and content of the Premier League’s submissions”.

Earlier on Monday, the commission said Forest had admitted breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules by £34.5million above their permitted £61m threshold.

Such a decision now leaves Nuno Espirito Santo’s struggling side fighting for their Premier League lives after being plunged into the relegation zone with just nine matches left to play this season.

Forest had been sitting in 17th place and three points above Luton occupying the final relegation slot, but have now dropped into 18th and a point below the Hatters, who have a slightly worse goal difference.

The two sides played out a dramatic 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road on Saturday after a last-gasp equaliser from Luton’s Luke Berry, ending a run of four successive losses across all competitions.

Forest have won just one Premier League match so far in 2024 and host another relegation rival in Crystal Palace in another key fixture at the City Ground after the current international break, on March 30.
