SINGAPORE — A 34-year-old maid from Myanmar was charged at the State Courts on Wednesday (8 July) with murdering a 95-year-old woman in a home in the Upper Serangoon area.
Sandar Htoo, who appeared via video-link, is accused of killing Ang Pek Chai sometime between 12.40pm and 1.18pm on Monday at the home along Recreation Road.
The suspect is being remanded at Central Police Division to assist in investigations. The case will be mentioned again next Wednesday.
In a statement on Monday evening, the police said they were alerted to a case of stabbing at about 1.50pm.
Officers found the victim lying motionless at the scene and paramedics pronounced her dead on the spot.
If found guilty of her charge, Sandar faces the death penalty.
