Come Wednesday (20 December), motorcyclists and heavy vehicle drivers will be able to pay for public parking via the Parking.sg mobile app.

The move means that the app is available for use by all vehicle types in Singapore, said the Urban Redevelopment Authority, Housing & Development Board (HDB) and Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) in a joint news release on Tuesday.

The Parking.sg app, which was launched for cars on 1 October, has been downloaded more than 300,000 times across the iOS and Android platforms.

Over a million parking sessions involving 152,000 unique vehicles have been paid for via the app, which was developed to provide a convenient way for motorists to pay for short-term parking at coupon-based carparks.

To use it, motorists key in their vehicle number, select a carpark code and indicate their parking duration. Motorists pay parking charges calculated based on 30-minute blocks but will be refunded and charged on a per-minute basis if they end their parking sessions earlier.

Charges for motorcycles will be capped at 65 cents per day or night session per carpark, similar to current rates.

The authorities added that they will be exploring additional app features, such as allowing the export of one’s parking history, and to include enhanced map features to facilitate users’ carpark selection.
