Here's how Inauguration Day unfolded, moment by moment

Donald John Trump was inaugurated on Friday as America's 45th president.

Trump was sworn in just after noon Eastern time on the steps in front of the US Capitol in Washington, DC. A parade down Pennsylvania Avenue followed soon after.

Hundreds of thousands of people flocked to the nation's capital for the event. Protests sprouted up around the National Mall, some of which turned violent, resulting in more than 90 arrests.

Trump replaced outgoing President Barack Obama, who attended the festivities with the outgoing first lady and other past presidents. Hillary Clinton, Trump's opponent in November's election, was also in attendance.
