Law & Order: SVU has addressed star Mariska Hargitay's injury and how it impacts the upcoming 23rd season.

Mariska, who plays Captain Olivia Benson, broke her right ankle last month and has recently been seen on set with crutches. But a representative for the show told TVLine that the crutches won't be featured on screen.

"[The injury] will be addressed in the season premiere," they added.

In other SVU news, Christopher Meloni discussed why he originally quit the show after season 12.

Speaking to Men's Health, the actor recalled he and NBC couldn't agree on pay. He added that he then tried to compromise by negotiating the number of episodes he would appear in but was ultimately unsuccessful.

"My thought was, instead of 22 episodes, bring me back for nine episodes or bring me back for 18 episodes," he commented.

The star would later return to the franchise as Detective Elliot Stabler for the Organized Crime spin-off, which is currently filming its second season.

It was recently confirmed that Dylan McDermott will be back for season 2 as Richard Wheatley in a recurring capacity.

Both SVU and Organized Crime return to US screens on September 23, but an additional planned spin-off titled For the Defense was cancelled despite previously getting a series order.

Law & Order: SVU airs Thursdays on NBC in the US. The show airs on Sky Witness in the UK, with select episodes available on NOW.
