Kyle Richards Says Marital Limbo Is ‘Working’ with Mauricio Umansky — but Knows It Looks ‘Strange’ (Exclusive)
Richards tells PEOPLE she and her husband will resolve their separation “sooner than later” and are “not going to be in this situation forever”
Kyle Richards is handling her marital issues in a way that works for her.
On Sunday, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 55, opened up to PEOPLE at the 2024 People's Choice Awards about how she and her husband Mauricio Umansky are weighing the future of their 28-year marriage.
“We're a family no matter what, and we love each other, and we're just trying to figure it out. So right now, it's not on pause,” Richards says. “We're actively navigating through this and working through it.”
The reality star adds that she and Umansky, 53, will soon resolve their separation, which was initially revealed by PEOPLE in July 2023.
“We're not going to be in this situation forever, whichever way that goes,” Richards continues. “Time will tell, probably sooner than later, but we're hanging in there. The good thing is we get along well, and we were at an event last night together with the family. And I don't know, it's been working for us. It's kind of strange, but hey, like I said, we're family no matter what.”
Richards also admits that she has not seen the most recent episode of the Bravo show, which shows a preview of this week’s season finale where the cast learns of the pair’s separation and she and Umansky sit down with their daughters to discuss the news.
“We haven’t told you guys everything because we tried to protect you,” Umansky told the girls as Richards' daughter Farrah Brittany wiped tears from her eyes.
“We’re still a family and we always will be. Always will be,” added Richards as she also wiped away tears while comforting her and Umansky's youngest daughter Portia.
“Last week I didn't watch because I didn't want to watch that scene with my children and my husband,” Richards tells PEOPLE. “I actually have no idea how that turned out, and I don't think I want to know. I was there, and I don't need to feel that again. So it's really hard. It's hard.”
Kyle and Mauricio share daughters Alexia, 27, Sophia, 24, and Portia, 15, while Kyle is also mom to Farrah, 35, with her ex-husband Guraish Aldjufrie.
Last week, Kyle admitted to Entertainment Tonight that it was “not easy shooting this season” of the hit Bravo series amid her marital troubles.

"It's certainly not easy watching it all back and having to relive it all again," she told the outlet. “I'm just sort of waiting for it to be over, to be honest. I feel like I've gotten through, like, the hardest parts, but then I have a little break… and then more difficult stuff comes up."
At the time their separation was reported, a source close to the couple told PEOPLE that they "have been separated for a while now but are still living under the same roof. They remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family."
Hours later, Kyle and Mauricio, who met at a nightclub in 1994, admitted to having a “rough year” in a joint statement posted to Instagram.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
