Kuon Men’s RTW Fall 2021

Kuon continued to showcase designer Shinichiro Ishibashi’s skill at blending archival Japanese techniques and fabrics with relevant modern silhouettes.

The look: Using Japan’s late 19th-century Edo period as well as the Western 1920s as inspiration, the collection of loose-fitting items for men is crafted from silk satin, grosgrain and velvet to create a wardrobe that is both comfortable and sophisticated.

Quote of note: Ishibashi channeled Albert Einstein, who once said: “Learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow” as he created a relaxed assortment of jackets, shirts and pants in a muted color palette, some of which are designed to give the appearance of layering, but are in fact, all one piece.

Standout pieces: Silk kimono fabrics in patchwork styles used in everything from a long coat to a jacket and shorts while a graphic based on an aerial view of Tokyo served to update a bomber jacket. But perhaps the most unexpected piece was a jacket created from Irish knit sweaters that were stitched together — a piece that also served as a nod to the brand’s message of sustainability.

The takeaway: Kuon has proven that no matter how intricate the collection, it still manages to remain on-trend.
