NEW YORK (AP) _ Intercept Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ICPT) on Wednesday reported a loss of $64.5 million in its third quarter.

The New York-based company said it had a loss of $2.18 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $2.65 per share.

The drugmaker posted revenue of $47 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $46.6 million.

Intercept shares have increased 49 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 42 percent in the last 12 months.
