Infographic: 2 Best Credit Cards For Cashback-Conscious Travellers In Singapore

This article was originally on GET.com at: Infographic: 2 Best Credit Cards For Cashback-Conscious Travellers In Singapore

Booking travel usually involves spending a lot of money, and if you travel often you probably spend some time looking for ways to save.

Searching for good deals on flights or taking advantage of discounts are the usual first steps. But one of the easiest ways to save money on travel is by using a cashback credit card to pay for your travel bookings.

Some credit cards in Singapore let you earn up to 5% cashback for travel bookings, and a card like this can be a strong asset, even if you only travel occasionally. Some credit cards may also give you cashback for overseas purchases.

If you spend a lot of time and money outside of Singapore, then a card that lets you earn high cashback on overseas spending is a big plus, because the cashback you earn can offset the foreign currency transaction fees you pay when using your credit card in other countries.

On the flip side, if you don't travel very often you may want to consider an all-round cashback credit card.

But if you love travelling and saving with cashback, then check out GET.com's pick of the best credit cards for cashback-conscious travellers.

ANZ Optimum World MasterCard

ANZ Optimum World MasterCard is our top pick because it gives you unlimited 5% cashback for travel purchases from airlines, online travel portals and travel agencies (if you choose travel as your 5% category). A big plus of this card is that you can choose which category you would like to earn cashback in from 4 categories (travel, dining & leisure, groceries, shopping). When you choose a category, you will earn 5% cash back for spending in that category for a calendar quarter (a quarter is a 3-month period divided like this: January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December). That means you can earn 5% cashback on groceries, shopping or dining & leisure while you are in Singapore, and then change the category to travel on time to earn 5% cashback when you make your travel bookings. There is no cap on the amount of cashback you can earn and no minimum spend is required to earn 5% cashback. You earn 1% cashback on your other purchases. You enjoy ANZ spot privileges which include discounts at hotels, restaurants and other merchants throughout Asia Pacific. This World MasterCard gives you access to a global concierge service, golf privileges, hotel perks and dining and shopping deals. Even the $180 card fee per annum (waived for the first year) isn't extremely high considering the ulimited cashback you can earn. The only catch is that you need to have an annual income of at least $80,000 to get this card.

UOB Visa Signature Card

UOB Visa Signature Card lets you earn 5% cashback on overseas spending, when you spend $1000 or more overseas in one statement period (1 month). Overseas cashback is capped at $100 per month, which means you earn 5% cashback on up to $2000 of overseas spending. This card also comes with top travel benefits like emergency medical assistance, evacuation and repatriation coverage of up to $50,000 per incident for you and your family. You also get personal accident insurance, travel inconvenience insurance (flight delays, luggage delay, luggage loss, loss of travel documents, travel delay, connecting flight delay) and purchase protection which covers the things you buy overseas in case of accidental damage or theft. When you aren't travelling you can use this card to enjoy 5% cashback on online, petrol and Visa payWave transactions, as long as you spend $1000 on these local purchases in one statement period. This card has a $214 annual fee, waived for the first year and you can get it if you earn $50,000 per annum.
