In a bid to strengthen community ties, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) announced on Sunday (15 April) that it is currently building nine thematic playgrounds in Dawson, Clementi and Bukit Panjang, which are expected to be completed by 2021.

Among them, five are located in Dawson estate where five new HDB projects are expected to be completed by end-2020, capable of housing a total of 5,000 families.

In line with the “Housing-in-a-Park” vision for the estate, the playgrounds were designed along nature themes. For instance, there’s the Giant Spider playground at SkyOasis @ Dawson, while the Eco Adventure playground at SkyParc @ Dawson runs through the eco-corridor situated between the SkyVille @ Dawson and SkyTerrace @ Dawson precincts.

At the Giant Green Net playground in Forfar Heights, children can climb on a netted climbing course with mock giant creepers, whilst the “Hills and Ribbons” playground at SkyResidence @ Dawson mirrors the design of the project’s “Green Ribbon” landscaped deck. Lastly, the Wonderland Playground at Dawson Vista draws inspiration from the children’s classic “Alice in Wonderland”.

These new thematic playgrounds are in addition to six completed facilities in Sengkang, Woodlands, Toa Payoh, Sembawang and Choa Chu Kang. Among them is a military-themed playground in Keat Hong estate that features play equipment resembling military vehicles.

“In particular, two distinctive military-themed playgrounds have been built at Keat Hong Garden and Keat Hong Mirage. Here, fathers and grandfathers can regale their children and grandchildren with stories from their National Service days. Children get to climb and ‘drive’ a ‘military tank’, or make a quick getaway from ‘enemies’ via a fire-man pole after being warned by their lookout stationed at the nearby ‘watch tower’,” said HDB.
