France puts foot down on Adidas online ban

France's competition authority said Wednesday it had forced German sportswear company Adidas to drop a clause banning its resellers from using online trading platforms.

The competition authority had obtained assurances that Adidas would now "widen its resellers' sales channels".

The authority's probe had targeted the German company's rule that its authorised resellers could not be present on trading platforms such as eBay, Price Minister, Amazon or Fnac.

In its investigation, the French authority got help from its German counterpart, the Bundeskartellamt, which had already pushed Adidas to lift restrictive reselling rules in Germany.
