Foreign real estate investment for Singaporeans: Is Dubai in vogue?

Investing in foreign property can sometimes be an attractive option for Singaporean investors. Especially due to recent cooling measures imposed by the government to curb speculation in the real estate scene here, it became harder to find and secure good buying opportunities domestically.

As an alternative, local investors tend to look at the familiar overseas spots; one of them being just across the Causeway. But sometimes it’s worth setting your sights a bit further beyond the ASEAN region.

Dubai, for example, is a place that Singaporean real estate investors might consider. From 22-23 October, Dubai real estate developer Nakheel will be offering investment opportunities in Singapore at an exclusive roadshow.

Nakheel, the developer of the world famous Palm Jumeirah, will be showcasing the benefits of owning a property in Dubai during the roadshow.

Dubai: the new property hotspot?

According to a Savills research report, annual returns on investment from rental income on Dubai real estate averages 7.6% – over four times that of Hong Kong (1.8%) and more than double the return in London (3.2%) and Singapore (3%).  Rental yields in Sydney average 4.1%, and, in New York, 4.2%.

Nakheel also reports that investors from Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia as well as other parts of Asia have already bought around 500 villas, apartments or land plots from Nakheel, spending a combined SGD340 million in the process.

The company aims to continue the momentum by showcasing unique, iconic projects and sharing valuable insight into investing in Dubai during its two-day, free-to-attend investor roadshow at the Four Seasons Singapore.

Among the projects are The Palm Tower, a 52-storey, luxury residential and hotel complex with a rooftop infinity pool 220 metres above ground and PALM 360, an awe-inspiring twin tower landmark featuring 12,000 sq ft penthouses complete with private infinity pools, gymnasiums and cinemas.

Why Dubai?

Nakheel Chairman Ali Rashid Lootah says: “Since our formation in 2001, Nakheel has played a pivotal role in transforming Dubai into a global destination for living, tourism and trade, and a magnet for overseas investors.

“Home to the world’s busiest airport, host of Expo 2020, an increasingly-popular tourism hotspot and with a population expected to double by 2030, Dubai offers countless new opportunities for investors who want to be part of the city’s exciting future.

“Dubai’s excellent transport, education, trade and recreational facilities already entice millions of people to live, work and spend leisure time in the emirate. As the city continues to grow, so does the need for more accommodation and attractions for residents, tourists and businesspeople.  All of this means newer and more lucrative opportunities for investors.”
