Exponent beats 4Q profit forecasts

MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) _ Exponent Inc. (EXPO) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $10.4 million.

On a per-share basis, the Menlo Park, California-based company said it had profit of 39 cents.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 34 cents per share.

The engineering and scientific consulting company posted revenue of $77 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $72.8 million.

For the year, the company reported profit of $47.5 million, or $1.75 per share. Revenue was reported as $299.2 million.

Exponent shares have declined 6 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $56.60, a climb of 13 percent in the last 12 months.
