The slogan and logo for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest has been revealed.

The annual song contest, which will be held in Liverpool, will run with the slogan “United by Music”.

The show’s artwork features the colours of the Ukrainian and UK flags and includes hearts beating together.

As a “nod” to the city’s rich musical heritage and iron street signs, the corporation added, the typeface Penny Lane has been used in the branding. The Beatles, formed in Liverpool, released the song of the same name, Penny Lane, in 1967.

Last year, the Ukrainian entry - Kalush Orchestra - won the competition. However, due to the ongoing conflict with Russia, the country was deemed unsuitable to host.

Sam Ryder, the UK entry, came second - so Britain took over hosting duties. Liverpool was picked as host city last year.

The BBC - which will broadcast the show - said the slogan and the logo: “reflects the very origins of the contest, developed to bring Europe closer together through a shared TV experience across different countries”.

The branding was created by the UK agency Superunion and Ukraine’s creative studio Starlight Creative. It will first be used during the Eurovision’s handover and allocation draw programme tonight on BBC Two. Rylan Clark and AJ Odudu will host.

During the show, most participating countries will also find out which semi-final they will take part in on May 9 and 11. 20 acts will be picked by the public to sing in the grand final on 13 May.

The UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy automatically qualify for the final because of how much their broadcasters pay to take part. Ukraine will also go straight to the final as 2022 winners.

The 11,000-capacity M&S Bank Arena on Liverpool’s waterfront will host the song contest.

The contest will be funded by the BBC, Liverpool City Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan confirmed the UK government will also contribute - but has not specified how much.

Martin Green, managing director of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 at the BBC said: “The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest will be a truly special event and the creative look is a big part of creating that magic.

“This year’s identity sums up perfectly the amazing partnerships across the contest and more importantly the power of music to bring people together across the world.”
