Encana: 2Q Earnings Snapshot

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Encana Corp. (ECA) on Wednesday reported a second-quarter loss of $151 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had a loss of 16 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 21 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 10 cents per share.

The energy company posted revenue of $983 million in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.14 billion.

Encana shares have climbed nearly 1 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 34 percent in the last 12 months.
