Election Updates: Trump Campaign Faces Major Legal Setbacks; Biden Wins Certified

The Trump administration has finally initiated the presidential transition process more than two weeks after President-elect Joe Biden declared victory. President Donald Trump, however, still hasn’t conceded and continues to push baseless voter fraud claims despite dozens of legal setbacks.

The federal government’s General Services Administration ― headed by Trump appointee Emily Murphy ― informed Biden on Monday that the Trump administration was ready to begin the formal process.

The decision followed mounting pressure from Democrats, national security experts, election officials and several Republican lawmakers to move forward with the process.

Trump’s legal team, headed by Rudy Giuliani, has suffered several major blows in their efforts to disenfranchise voters and overturn Biden’s win, including judges dismissing multiple lawsuits alleging election irregularities across several states.

Michigan voted to certify its election results on Monday after facing legal challenges from the Trump campaign. Biden won the state by more than 150,000 votes. On Tuesday, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf announced that the state had certified its results, formally granting Biden its 20 electoral votes.

As the walls continue to close in on Trump, Biden has announced several key Cabinet positions, including historic nominations for the Homeland Security Department and Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
