Is there diversity in Singapore businesses' senior management?

Women make up 23.8% of senior management.

Asian countries continue to dominate the top positions in management gender diversity, with Singapore still among the top countries to exhibit gender diversity in both senior management and boardrooms.

According to the latest study by Credit Suisse, 23.8% of management positions in Singapore are taken by women.

However, this is lower that was was recorded in 2015 at 26.7. Singapore placed fourth in the global ranking while it took fourth in the region.

Thailand overtook Singapore in the list, as the study revealed that 27.8% of management positions in the country's businesses are women.

Meanwhile, the percentage of women in boardrooms have also been increasing in the city state.

The data revealed that for Singapore, the number inched up a little from 8.4% to 9.9%.

Commenting on this, Credit Suisse Head of Global Markets Research Stefano Natella said gender diversity in both board and senior management positions is a tremendous benefit to companies and shareholders.

"Management manages companies, while boards supervise them. To understand the full impact of gender diversity, we need to focus on management.The data shows that there is a strong correlation between companies with high levels of diversity in management and their performance,” he explained.
