EU pork industry faces 'nightmare' if China restricts imports
Europe's pork industry faces a "nightmare scenario" of lower prices and falling profitability if China restricts imports from the region, industry executives and analysts said on Friday. China imported $6 billion worth of pork, including offal, in 2023 and more than half came from the EU, Chinese customs data showed. Ending those orders would result in a huge loss of business for Europe's meat industry.

BMW electric Mini threatened with highest EV tariff from EU, source says
BMW's all-electric Mini made in China is set to be hit by the highest EV tariff of 38.1% under the EU's provisional plans, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday, a potential terminal blow for the mid-range car's sales prospects. Mass production of the roughly 35,000-euro ($37,345) vehicle, produced by a BMW and China's Great Wall Motor Co Ltd joint venture, began late last year - shortly after the EU launched its probe. With production still in early days, the JV was unable to fulfil the European Commission's survey to the level of detail required to be classed as a company cooperating with the investigation, the source said, declining to be named because discussions are private.

Global airlines bet on India travel boom
Global airlines are launching new flights and expanding schedules in India, betting the South Asian giant will become one of the hottest travel markets over the next decade, airline officials and analysts say. India, among the fastest-growing major aviation markets, took centre stage at the industry's largest gathering of global airline CEOs and aircraft leasing companies in Dubai last week, with domestic and international air travel surging. The domestic air travel market in India is expected to double to 300 million passengers from a record 152 million in 2023, according to government data.

US industry groups seek hearing, more on Biden's China tariff hike
A wide swath of pro-trade American business groups has asked the Biden administration for another month to comment on plans to impose steeper tariffs on Chinese imports of electric vehicles, batteries, solar products and other goods, effectively delaying the Aug. 1 start date for many of the duties. The group, representing manufacturers, retailers, technology firms, agribusiness groups, energy companies and transport firms, also requested that USTR hold a public hearing on the matter, as it did in 2017 and 2018 for prior tariffs. President Joe Biden last month announced the tariff hikes to protect U.S. manufacturers in strategic sectors from Chinese excess industrial capacity that is flooding global markets with exports.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -A policy group led by the United Steelworkers union and domestic manufacturers is calling for the U.S. to enact stronger trade barriers to Chinese imports after President Joe Biden imposed steep tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, solar panels and other strategic goods. The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) on Friday published a report on China's excess industrial capacity that echoes concerns raised by the Biden administration and U.S. allies in recent months, saying quick action was needed to stem a rising tide of cheap and subsidized exports that threatens U.S. jobs. The group called for the return of a long-expired import surge protection tool that was created when Beijing joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, the event that turned China into a global export powerhouse.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) -Hyundai Motor's India unit sought regulatory approval on Saturday for a stock market listing in Mumbai which could be the nation's biggest and will see the South Korean parent sell a stake of up to 17.5% in the company. The IPO will make it the country's first car maker to go public in two decades since Maruti Suzuki in 2003, and would come just as Indian stock markets are trading near record highs. Boeing finds new flaws in 787 jets: sources
STORY: Boeing has found more quality problems on its jets. Reuters sources say the issues this time concern its 787 widebody planes. They say the aerospace giant has found hundreds of incorrectly tightened fasteners on some undelivered aircraft. The sources say the problem was discovered at plant in South Carolina, with the fasteners found to have been tightened from the wrong end. There is no immediate concern about flight safety, but one source says Boeing is trying to understand how the problem arose - and how much work it must do to remedy the issue.The company confirmed the checks to Reuters, and said there would be no impact on deliveries. Even so, it’s another concern for investors after a series of quality control issues at the company. Some of its big-selling 737 MAX jets were grounded for a time earlier this year after a midair blowout on one of the planes. The Federal Aviation Administration has blocked a plan to raise output of the model, while Boeing takes steps to ensure manufacturing quality. Regulators said they were aware of the new concerns regarding the 787, and would work with the company to determine appropriate action. Boeing shares are down around 30% this year amid all the problems.
