Daily Markets Briefing: STI down 0.05%

Expect some good news today.

The Straits Times Index (STI) ended 0.05 points lower to 3228.51, taking the year-to-date performance to +12.07%.

The top active stocks today were DBS, which declined 0.20%, SPH, which declined 4.38%, ThaiBev, which gained 2.75%, Global Logistic, which closed unchanged and UOB, with a 0.51% fall.

The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index declined 0.18%, while the FTSE ST Small Cap Index rose 0.19%.

According to OCBC Investment Research, US stock-market indexes booked their biggest one-day gains in months, while the benchmark S&P 500 ended the session at an all-time high on Monday, in a broad rally led by financials and technology shares.

All eleven S&P 500 industries finished higher, led by Financials (1.74%) and Information Technology (1.50%).

"The rally on Wall Street overnight could provide a boost to the local bourse today," OCBC said.
