Daily Markets Briefing: STI up 0.45%

Don't expect gains today.

The Straits Times Index (STI) ended 15.85 points or 0.45% higher to 3536.41, taking the year-to-date performance to +3.92%.

The top active stocks were Singtel, which gained closed unchanged, DBS, which gained 0.76%, CityDev, which gained 2.45%, OCBC Bank, which gained 0.69% and Keppel Corp, with a 1.63% advance.

The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index declined 0.03%, whilst the FTSE ST Small Cap Index remain unchanged.

According to OCBC Investment Research, the U.S. stock market was closed on Monday for Martin L. King Day.

European stocks finished lower Monday, as the euro continued to march up further into three-year highs, giving a key regional benchmark its third drop in four sessions.

"With Wall Street closed last night, the local bourse could get off to a muted start this morning," OCBC said.
