Canada's Power Corp shuts down China unit, lays off staff, sources say
Power Corporation of Canada (Power Corp) has shut its China investment unit and dismissed all staff, said two people briefed on the matter, becoming the latest Western financial firm to pull back amid the country's economic challenges. Power Sustainable, which is the asset management arm of Power Corp and manages $4.5 billion of assets globally, started laying off all of its 17 local staff in recent weeks as it moved towards shutting down the Shanghai-based unit, said the people. Economic slowdown has seen many of the Western financial firms that scrambled to expand China operations a few years ago take a hit on their earnings and rein in their ambitions for what was a key piece of their global growth strategy.

Nvidia's strong forecast lifts shares of AI chipmakers
A stronger-than-expected revenue forecast from Nvidia after the bell on Wednesday lifted shares of the artificial-intelligence chipmaker and fueled gains in other chip and technology stocks. Shares of Nvidia were last up 3.5% while Advanced Micro Devices was up 1.2% and Broadcom was up 0.8% in after-hours trading. "I believe I heard a collective sigh of relief across Wall Street as many investors and analysts were nervous about Nvidia and the entire tech center ahead of this announcement," said Michael Schulman, chief investment officer at Running Point Capital.

"To some extent, I think what's been announced isn't yet of a scale that is going to start putting a meaningful kind of tens of percentage points onto GDP," said Sunil Krishnan, head of multi-asset funds at Aviva Investors in London.

Traders are pricing in a big move for Nvidia’s shares after the chipmaker reports earnings on Wednesday, though expectations for volatility are more muted than in the past, U.S. options markets show. Nvidia's options are primed for an 8.7% swing in either direction by Friday, according to data from options analytics firm Trade Alert. While massive by most measures, that implied move would fall far short of the 16.4% jump Nvidia’s shares notched after the company’s most recent quarterly earnings report.

Schneider Electric ends deal talks with Bentley Systems
(Reuters) -Schneider Electric said on Wednesday that its talks with U.S. engineering software maker Bentley Systems regarding a potential "strategic transaction" have ended. "Those discussions are now mutually terminated and no transaction was agreed upon," Schneider said in a statement. Bentley's shares fell more than 5% on the news, giving the company a market value of $16 billion.
