CNA Financial: 4Q Earnings Snapshot

CHICAGO (AP) _ CNA Financial Corp. (CNA) on Monday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $84 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Chicago-based company said it had a loss of 31 cents. Losses, adjusted for investment costs, came to 8 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 81 cents per share.

The insurance holding company posted revenue of $2.4 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $2.22 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $813 million, or $2.98 per share. Revenue was reported as $9.18 billion.

CNA Financial shares have climbed slightly more than 5 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped slightly more than 5 percent in the last 12 months.
