1. Raja Ampat Islands, Indonesia

If you love luminous azure waters, pristine white beaches, coral reefs teeming with marine life, lush green jungles, and you obviously have a thing for snorkelling and diving, the Raja Ampat Islands (an Indonesian archipelago comprising about 1000 islands off Sorong) could be the place you'd want to spend your Christmas holidays at.

While it may not be your usual Christmasy holiday filled with stuffed turkey, ham and lots of presents, this gorgeous holiday destination with its unadulterated beauty is the perfect retreat for fatigued souls in need of rejuvenation, for those who are seeking some respite from the hustle and bustle of city living. You'll fully appreciate what this wondrous place has to offer if you love being enveloped in nature's arms.

2. Bali, Indonesia

People flock to paradisal Bali for its waves, beaches, temples, paddy fields, volcanoes, spas, food and more. Though many holidaymakers visit this island for a dose of bronzy tanning and thrilling surfing, it doesn't mean that the above-mentioned is all that Bali has to offer.

Christmas in Bali can be as lively or as serene as you can possibly imagine. If you prefer the former, make sure you're in the Ubud, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Legian and Seminyak areas to participate in Christmas festivities. From shopping, fireworks, to special Christmas packages, this holiday haven might just tick all the right boxes.

On the other hand, if you prefer a quieter Christmas holiday with the people closest to your heart, ease yourself in gorgeous ocean-front villas in Amed, Lovina or Sanur. Who doesn't like to wake up to beautiful views of the majestic ocean?

3. Tokyo, Japan

If you want to feast your eyes on jaw-droppingly gorgeous Christmas lights and the Tokyo winter skyline, head further north to the land of sashimi. The entire city of Tokyo is illuminated with a ton of Christmas lights and peppered with towering Christmas trees come the holiday season, and this is especially true if you're going to be in Roppongi Hills and Ginza.

If you really don't know where to go, just follow the crowd that's headed for Tokyo Midtown. This Christmas season, from 15 November to 25 December (5pm to 11pm), visitors to the Roppongi Hills get to experience the enchanting Christmas light-up coupled with a Christmas market where you'll find exquisite treats like handcrafted ornaments, mulled wine (yay!), hot chocolate and German grilled sausages.

Besides taking in the beautiful lights with your loved ones, there are department store sales to cater to shopaholics, too.

4. Bangkok, Thailand

Singaporeans adore Bangkok for its amazing Thai cuisine, great shopping, and super cheap beers (okay, all types of alcoholic drinks in general), but when tinsel and glowy fairy lights start adorning establishments such as hotels, shopping centres and even convenience stores, you know it is that time of the year - Christmas.

Most of you probably have been to Bangkok sometime in your life before, but how many people have experienced Christmas in the Land of Smiles? If you are the kind of person who loves a good party, you need to visit Bangkok during the Christmas season. Not only do you get to party your nights away in Bangkok without chalking up a mountain of credit card bills, you get to do Christmas shopping, take advantage of Christmas packages that hotels and restaurants are rolling out, and stroll under beautiful twinkling Christmas lights altogether.
