CenterPoint: 1Q Earnings Snapshot

HOUSTON (AP) _ CenterPoint Energy Inc. (CNP) on Thursday reported a first-quarter loss of $1.2 billion, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Houston-based company said it had a loss of $2.44 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, were 50 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 45 cents per share.

The energy delivery company posted revenue of $2.17 billion in the period.

CenterPoint expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.10 to $1.20 per share.

CenterPoint shares have fallen 41% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has declined 12%. The stock has dropped 49% in the last 12 months.
