Burnley 0-1 Tottenham LIVE! Moura goal - Carabao Cup result, match stream and latest updates today
Lucas Moura’s second-half goal sent Tottenham through to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after a 1-0 win at Burnley.
It was a much-needed win for Nuno Espirito Santo, who is under some pressure after an inconsistent start to the season, but a good cup run in this competition could help his cause.
Harry Kane could have given Tottenham the perfect start, but he continued to look off colour, dragging a shot well wide when being played through by Giovani Lo Celso in the third minute.
In the second period, Lo Celso played the ball out to Royal on the right and the Brazilian sent in an in-swinging cross which Moura headed home from eight yards.
Burnley had to up their game if they were going to get back into the contest and they threw bodies forward, but Spurs defended well.

#thfc FT, 0-1. A deeply uninspiring affair but Spurs deserve a place in the QF on the balance of play. A generous interpretation is that they kept it tight & wore Burnley down but there really wasn't enough going forward.

Full time! Burnley 0-1 Tottenham
21:36 , Marc Mayo
Job done for Nuno’s side. They’re in the hat for the last eight...
21:36 , Marc Mayo
90+2 mins: Burnley aren’t going away quietly but, to be fair, Spurs are defending well.
Pope races off his line to deal with a Kane counter and does so very well.
21:33 , Marc Mayo
89 mins: Rodon is on for a bit of muscle. Lo Celso off.
Four minutes added on.
21:31 , Marc Mayo
87 mins: A lot of Clarets pressure now to keep Tottenham honest, a corner from Cornet cleared as far as Pieters for a lash over the bar.
21:29 , Marc Mayo
85 mins: Save!
Burnley’s first attempt on target comes via Barnes’ spin-and-shot on the edge of the area. A tough effort to pull off, Gollini is equal to it.
21:28 , Marc Mayo
84 mins: A strong leap from Royal blocks Cornet’s cross after a good move by Burnley.
21:26 , Marc Mayo
82 mins: A nice counter led by Kane feeds through Ndombele and Son back to the Frenchman, who takes too long to keep the move going forward and loses possession.
Tottenham sitting back a bit more now. Not really fully committing to their breakaways either.
21:24 , Marc Mayo
80 mins: This is better from the home team - is it too little too late though?
21:23 , Marc Mayo
79 mins: Now calls for a penalty as Barnes hits the deck after going up for a header. Nothing in it. No VAR either.
21:22 , Marc Mayo
77 mins: Banks agrees with home fan appeals for a handball and Burnley can load the box.
Brownhill’s ball is decent but cleared nicely.
21:18 , Marc Mayo
74 mins: Royal enjoying a good game, he rushes the penalty box and fires an effort at Pope.
Burnley respond with two changes - Cornet and Lennon replace Gudmundsson and McNeil.
21:14 , Marc Mayo
71 mins: Chance!
Moura again with the threat, breaking into the box and forcing Pope into the stop.
Can Spurs knock this one on the head with a second?
21:13 , Marc Mayo
69 mins: A vital moment for Tottenham and how can Burnley respond? Dyche had already thrown on his two main strikers.
Dan Kilpatrick at Turf Moor
21:12 , Marc Mayo
There has been little to set the pulses races tonight but Spurs just about deserve their lead on the balance of play. Lucas, who has always been more effective in the box than outside it, with an intelligent header into the ground and beyond Pope.
GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Tottenham

67 mins: Spurs break through with Moura’s header!
Dan Kilpatrick at Turf Moor
21:09 , Marc Mayo
“Nuno make a sub, Nuno, Nuno make a sub,” sing the Spurs fans. The manager responds a few minutes later, sending on Son and Ndombele for Bergwijn and Skipp.
21:08 , Marc Mayo
65 mins: Chance!
Kane bombs into the area but is repelled, and on the second move he slips in Lo Celso. His shot is well saved by Pope one-on-one.
21:06 , Marc Mayo
63 mins: Technically, Nuno has already made a change but Gil’s injury kind of took that out of his hands.
A spell of pressure from the visitors nonetheless leads to a sprayed pass to the right flank that Royal cannot reach.
21:05 , Marc Mayo
62 mins: Tottenham fans respond to Sean Dyche’s change with chants of ‘Nuno, make a sub’. He didn’t until 84 minutes on the weekend...
21:04 , Marc Mayo
60 mins: A double change for Burnley up top, Vydra and Rodriguez off for Barnes and Wood.
No goal for Rodriguez tonight, who has 19 goal involvements in his last 20 League Cup games - a run stretching over a decade.
21:02 , Marc Mayo
57 mins: Davies aims a hopeful ball down the left that drifts out of play. This game has been a slog for both teams, little is clicking.
Dan Kilpatrick at Turf Moor
20:58 , Marc Mayo
A goal may be too much to ask but the challenge for both sides is to at least muster a shot on target in this half. No sign yet, as Royal over hits another cross from a good position.
20:56 , Marc Mayo
52 mins: Chance!
A bit of Burnley now and a header back across goal looks very dangerous, yet lands inches behind the on-rushing Rodriguez and Tottenham escape.
Down the other end, Kane breaks into the box and loses out against his marker.
20:50 , Marc Mayo
48 mins: Mee leaves a little on Moura to earn a slight telling off from the referee, Peter Banks.
A bit zippier from Tottenham as they get into their first build-up of the half.
20:49 , Marc Mayo
46 mins: No changes at the break, Spurs now kicking towards their away fans.
Second-half underway!
20:47 , Marc Mayo
Can anyone find a winner?
What if it finishes level?
20:43 , Marc Mayo
No extra-time or second legs tonight. If we’re even at 90 minutes... it’s penalties.
20:39 , Marc Mayo
Elsewhere in the Carabao Cup, some games with more action than this and some with just as little.
Leicester lead Brighton 2-1 after trading blows in stoppage-time with Brentford two up at Stoke.
Liverpool-Preston, West Ham-Man City and this match are all goalless.
Dan Kilpatrick at Turf Moor
20:33 , Marc Mayo
A low-quality affair at Turf Moor. Spurs have definitely shaded it but Kane’s squandered two tricky opportunities on his left foot. Burnley’s best opening a Gudmundsson cross which forced Royal into awkward clearance.
Half-time! Burnley 0-0 Tottenham
20:33 , Marc Mayo
No shots on target after 45 minutes. Spurs have dominated possession but with little to show for it.
20:31 , Marc Mayo
45 mins: One minute added on.
20:30 , Marc Mayo
43 mins: Over!
A corner ball is flicked on to Kane, free at the far-post... but his shot flies over as he attempts to hook his left foot over the high ball.
Not an easy one, but still not what the England man is used to doing in front of goal.
20:28 , Marc Mayo
42 mins: Oh dear, Moura breaks with a smart diagonal run into the D and, with Kane free to the right and even Hojbjerg an option, he places a tame ball straight at a Burnley defender and the chance goes.
20:27 , Marc Mayo
40 mins: Not what Hojbjerg is on the pitch to do, the Dane finds himself down the left flank and dribbles the ball harmlessly out of play.
One sarcastic cheer from the home end becomes two as he takes his anger out on an unsuspecting towel behind the goal. Now that was a clean connection.
20:26 , Marc Mayo
39 mins: Another Spurs attack drifts away without much to show for it. Bergwijn taking matters into his own hands with a thump from distance which is immediately blocked.
20:22 , Marc Mayo
36 mins: A stoppage as two Burnley players receive treatment for a collision in their box. Roberts has his knee checked but looks ready to continue.
20:20 , Marc Mayo
34 mins: It’s pretty much all Tottenham now but that doesn’t mean Pope is having to take any evasive action.
Burnley’s main problem is losing the ball again as soon as they win it back.
20:17 , Marc Mayo
31 mins: Low and soft from Lo Celso, and the wall does its job.
20:16 , Marc Mayo
30 mins: The hosts repel another attack as Lo Celso’s pass to Kane cannot meet his stride and the Argentine then loses out in a battle by the touchline.
Moura wins a foul 30 yards out, wide-right, which that same duo are talking over.
Dan Kilpatrick at Turf Moor
20:14 , Marc Mayo
The loss of Bryan Gil is a shame for Spurs and the young Spaniard, who is one of the few fringe players who has looked capable of pushing for a place in Nuno’s first XI of late. Lucas Moura has replaced him.
20:13 , Marc Mayo
27 mins: Royal puts the ball in for Bergwijn but an airkick from the Dutchman draws only a cheer from the home fans.
Moura’s first involvement is a nice run and pass to Lo Celso, whose cross is well-aimed and yet cleared.
20:11 , Marc Mayo
25 mins: Moura is on for Gil, who has sat straight on the bench having clearly felt an injury. The physio is taking a look at his leg as we kick off again.
20:10 , Marc Mayo
23 mins: Gil has an issue and sits down by the dugout before being directed towards the other side of the byline for his treatment, so play can continue.
It doesn’t look good for the winger.
20:08 , Marc Mayo
22 mins: Lovely interception from Cork ends a Tottenham move, which Bergwijn had forged with some neat movement down the left. He looks a lot sharper than against Vitesse six days ago.
20:07 , Marc Mayo
20 mins: Romero concedes a free-kick by the corner flag but a poor delivery means an easy clearance. Not what you’d expect from Burnley.
20:06 , Marc Mayo
18 mins: A single shot each so far, neither hitting the target.
Spurs come forward and Gil is mobbed by Pieters, a bit of a mismatch in stature so the Spaniard will need all his wizardry to wriggle free.
Dan Kilpatrick at Turf Moor
20:02 , Marc Mayo
Is Harry Kane below par or just not getting the service under Nuno? His underwhelming form is a bit of both but he has squandered Spurs’ best chance so far, firing well wide after being released by Giovani Lo Celso. Even game so far.
20:01 , Marc Mayo
14 mins: Brownhill hits an effort over the bar after the corner.
20:00 , Marc Mayo
13 mins: Roberts and Gudmundsson work it nicely down the right and the Icelandic international winds up for a cross, which demands Royal launch a desperate clearance failing his own goal. A bit of life from the hosts.
19:57 , Marc Mayo
10 mins: Bergwijn hunts out Kane but the lob is just over his head, an approach that the hosts may not prefer given their comfort in slower periods of possession.
19:54 , Marc Mayo
7 mins: Tottenham settle into some comfortable possession around the halfway line, Burnley making it clear they won’t chase the ball if they don’t have to.
19:52 , Marc Mayo
4 mins: First opening for Kane but not a classic strike from the forward. A sign of a man out of form.

Nuno Espirito Santo is looking for his reserve players to impress at Turf Moor having failed to do so least week in the Europa Conference League.
He said: “We have to go game-by-game and then this game is a final. It’s a chance for us to improve our game, to compete well knowing that we have to manage some situations.
“We have players who need minutes, who deserve minutes, but it’s up to us to manage the situation of the players because what we want is to build a competitive team.”

The stage is set for a very interesting Carabao Cup clash tonight.
19:14 , Marc Mayo
Tottenham are hoping to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for the third time in four years tonight.
Since winning the trophy in 2008, they have reached this stage nine times - and only fallen here on three occasions.
As for Burnley, they haven’t made the quarter-finals since 2009, with this only their fifth appearance in the fourth-round since.

No Harry Winks or Dele Alli tonight for Spurs, having been left in North London for the trip to Turf Moor.
Speaking after playing in the defeat to Vitesse, midfielder Winks called for more game time to allow him the chance to find form.
"Of course [my confidence is low],” he said.
“When players are not playing well and you only have yourself to blame, it’s difficult. I want to be at my best, firing and playing really well. It comes with games. But ultimately it comes with me performing on the pitch when I get the opportunity.
"If I’m not doing that, then I only have myself to blame. I’m man enough to admit that I need to improve in certain areas. On the contrary, I need to play games and the only way to [improve] is getting minutes and getting that sharpness back."

Sean Dyche is confident his Burnley side can compete in the Carabao Cup despite struggling early on in the Premier League.
Without a win in their opening nine league matches, the Clarets boss said: “We’re all aware of the importance of the league programme and its importance to the club.
“But it’s still nice to do well in these tournaments if you can and so far we’ve got through the first two rounds.
“It’s not an easy task against Tottenham, they’re a very high level group of footballers, but we like to think ours are growing.
“We’re getting fitter, we’re getting stronger again and I think the mentality is good. So we certainly take on the game without a doubt.”
Head-to-head record

Tottenham wins: 50
Draws: 28
Burnley wins: 41
The Clarets have won only one of their last 14 meetings...
Evening Standard Prediction
17:58 , Marc Mayo
Much will depend upon the strength of Nuno’s team, but Burnley also have bigger priorities at the moment, yet to win in the league this season and preparing to host newly-promoted Brentford on Saturday.
Tottenham to win on penalties.
17:48 , Marc Mayo
Tottenham predicted XI: Gollini; Tanganga, Sanchez, Romero, Reguilon; Lo Celso, Skipp; Bergwijn, Ndombele, Gil; Kane.
17:39 , Marc Mayo
Nuno gave his second-string a chance to impress in Arnhem and they failed to take it, but with a crunch meeting with Manchester United to come at the weekend, he may not be too keen on fielding a full strength line-up either.
A hybrid side is the most likely alternative, though Dele Alli and Harry Winks have both been omitted from the squad, raising further doubts over their respective Spurs futures.
Matt Doherty is set to return, but Ryan Sessegnon remains out.

Welcome to another huge game for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham as they travel to Burnley in the Carabao Cup.
It may not be the most important competition for either side but neither would say no a trophy, or a vital win after rocky spells of form.
Team news is due in about an hour and we’ll keep you up to date with all the pre-game goings on beforehand.
