Best 3 Air Miles Credit Cards for Frequent Flyers in Singapore

Ask any Singaporean what their dreams are, and travelling the world is bound to come up at least 80% of the time in one form or another. We’re not sure why exactly, but this reason has driven the proliferation of air miles credit cards in Singapore, and it’s certainly a great way to get rewarded for spending with your credit card. If you haven’t got any, and you’re a frequent flyer, you’ll want to check out these top credit cards:

1. Best for Local Spend – UOB PRVI Miles Platinum Card

Long held as one of the best air miles cards in the market, the UOB PRVI Miles Platinum Card boasts a strong miles accrual rate for both local and overseas spend. Coupled with UOB’s other strong lifestyle benefits, you can see why this is still a popular card. Some key features of the card are:

  • 3 miles per dollar on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir & KrisShop

  • 2.4 miles per dollar for your overseas spend

  • 1.4 miles per dollar for your local spend

  • 20,000 bonus miles per year with a min. annual spend of $50,000

  • Free travel accident insurance of up to $1,000,000 when you book your flights with the card

The high minimum annual spend to redeem the 20,000 bonus miles is mainly linked to the fact that this card requires a relatively higher annual income of at least $80,000. That being said, if you had to choose a card to lump all your expenses into in order to gain air miles, this would be a great card to do just that. And if you’re not travelling to Australia or New Zealand (see card no. 2), it’s great for accruing miles on overseas spend too.

2. Best for Overseas Spend – ANZ Travel Visa Signature Credit Card

The ANZ Travel Visa Signature Credit Card may not be the first card you think of when it comes to frequent flyer cards, but with an accumulation rate of 1.4 miles for $1 spent locally (which is similar to UOB), and a whopping 2.8 miles for every $1 spent in Australia and New Zealand, this becomes an automatic contender for people who travel to those places regularly. Benefits include:

  • Earn 2.8 air miles per S$1 spent on your holidays at selected partners or in Australia and New Zealand.

  • Get 10,000 bonus miles upon annual renewal of your card

  • Free travel insurance of up to $1,000,000 when you book your flights with the card

  • Get up to 17.8% savings at Caltex on the S$200 ANZ StarCash prepaid card

This card is perfect if you regularly travel to Australia and New Zealand for work, or visit friends or family studying there. Given that Australia is such a popular choice for overseas study, this card definitely makes sense if you have lots of friends over there. But that aside, at a accumulation rate of 1.4 miles for $1 spent locally, it’s no pushover when it comes to local spend either.

3. Best Card for Online Travel Booking – DBS Altitude Visa Signature Card

The DBS Altitude Visa Signature Card might have been forgotten for awhile, but it has definitely come back with a huge push to take its place amongst the competition. Here’s some of their updated offerings:

  • Earn 3 miles per S$1 spent on all online Flight and Hotel transactions
    (capped at S$10,000 per month)

  • 2 miles per S$1 spent overseas

  • 1.2 miles per S$1 spent locally

  • Apply online and receive 12,000 bonus miles.

The card boasts DBS points that never expire, and with an additional 10,000 bonus miles when you renew your card and pay your annual fee, this card provides one of the fastest ways to accrue miles.

This is especially so if you travel a lot for work and you’re required to book your flights and accommodation first before being reimbursed by your company. You could easily rack up enough miles for a short trip at the end of the year with their accelerated miles accrual for online bookings.
