Google invests 1 billion euros in Finnish data centre to drive AI growth
Alphabet-owned Google will invest a further 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) into the expansion of its data centre campus in Finland to drive its artificial intelligence (AI) business growth in Europe, it said in a statement on Monday. In recent years, many data centres have been located in the Nordic countries because of the region's cooler climate, tax breaks and abundant availability of renewable power. Finland's Nordic neighbours Sweden and Norway have recently grown increasingly critical of hosting them, with some industry experts arguing the Nordic countries should use their renewable power for products such as green steel that could leave higher surplus value in the countries.

Aggregate demand momentum in India is rising, with the overall non-food spending being pushed up by green shoots in rural spending recovery, the Reserve Bank of India said in its monthly bulletin on Tuesday. Rural demand for fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) has outpaced urban markets for the first time in at least two years, the bulletin said.

Oil eases on worries about US inflation, interest rates
NEW YORK (Reuters) -Oil prices eased less than 1% on Monday as U.S. Federal Reserve officials said they were awaiting more signs that inflation was declining before the central bank starts cutting interest rates. Two top Fed officials said they're not yet ready to say inflation trends are again moving sustainably back to the central bank's 2% target, weighing in after data last week showed a welcome easing in consumer price pressures in April. Lower interest rates would reduce borrowing costs for consumers and businesses, which could boost economic growth and demand for oil.

The aim is to draw up an interim joint strategy through around 2035 when the economic ministers of Japan and ASEAN members meet as early as next September, Nikkei reported, without citing any source. European labs led by imec to receive $2.7 billion in Chips Act funding
Leading European research labs will receive 2.5 billion euros ($2.72 billion) in funding under the European Chips Act to set up a pilot line to develop and test future generations of advanced computer chips, Belgium's imec said on Wednesday. The European Union's 43 billion euro Chips Act was announced in 2023 to support domestic European chipmaking, a counterbalance to plans by China, the U.S. and other governments to shore up their own industries following shortages during the COVID pandemic. Leuven, Belgium-based research hub imec will host the pilot line for the sub-2 nanometre chips to help European industry, academics and start-ups access chip manufacturing technology that would otherwise be too expensive for any one of them to test or use in development.

AstraZeneca plans to build a $1.5 billion manufacturing facility in Singapore to produce a promising category of cancer-killing drugs called antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), the Anglo-Swedish drugmaker said on Monday. The facility, which will be the drugmaker's first end-to-end ADC production site, will be supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board. The company did not provide details on the possible financial incentives from the Singapore government.
