Over the last few months of the coronavirus pandemic, I have ditched straighteners, curlers, and even brushing my hair at times. Now I tend to leave my locks to air dry, or scrape my hair up in a bun for days on end.

However, there have been times when drying and styling my hair was needed, such as on the odd occasion I would be tempted to "make an effort" for my weekend walk or Zoom call.

For those moments when I want to look like I've made a bit more of an effort, there is one hair tool that has proved to be one of my best investments to date: Revlon's Salon One-Step Volumiser.

Why we rate it

A number of my friends raved about Revlon Salon One-Step Volumiser, after the brush went viral on TikTok in 2020.

So, I decided to buy it for my sister for her birthday in Amazon's Black Friday sale, and after borrowing hers to see what all the fuss was about I succumbed to the hype.

The heated hair brush is a multi-purpose 2-in-1 styling tool, which allows you to dry and style your hair at the same time. So, you can either straighten your locks, curl them, or achieve the bouncy blow dry look I have longed for more than ever since salons closed, all from the comfort of your own home.

The tool has ionic technology to reduce frizziness and leave your hair looking silky smooth after use, but also features a combination of long brushes and finer bristles to detangle your hair.

The barrel has air vents to heat your hair evenly from the roots to the ends, which in turn helps your hair to dry quicker, without being as damaging to your locks as some heated tools.

It has a chunky handle with easy grip, as well as a protective area at the top of the brush to hold onto to help you style your hair, without touching the heated area.

On the base, the tool has two heat settings, as well as a cool setting, which I switch to once my hair is dry to help the curls to stay in place.

Initially, I was sceptical about the Revlon Salon One-Step Volumizer because though my hair is mid to long in length it is fine and rarely holds it's shape. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It worked wonders, even when the curls drop slightly, my hair still looks "done" but with minimal effort.

If I am in a rush, just a few minutes brushing the Volumizer through my hair makes a huge difference, but when I have more time on my hands I will section my hair to style it.

I have even used the hair gadget on my mum with ringlet curls, and it works a dream on her hair too.

For those looking for more volume, I would suggest when you reach the top layer of the head, around the crown, use the brush from the underside of the hair you intend to style and curl outwards.

Tempted? The Revlon Salon One-Step Volumizer is currently on sale for £50 reduced from £59.99 on Amazon, and I think it's well worth the price tag.

What the reviews say

Aside from our own love for the Revlon Salon One-Step Volumizer, other shoppers are fond of the hair tool too, which has racked up over 11,000 glowing reviews.

Here's what they say:

  • "Honest to God, this has been a game changer for me. I've never been able to do the hairdryer and brush thing to blow dry my hair into a style. The thing is, my hair is so thick and past shoulder length that it's always been a nightmare to dry and style - until now! I'm in awe! My now bouncy, styled, smooth, shiny hair in about half the time looks fab."

  • "This is fabulous! Bigger than I thought it would be, but very good if you want to just use one hand to do your hair. People have remarked how lovely my hair looks and it's down to this hair dryer/style."

  • "I have arthritis in my neck, shoulders and back and have discs gone in my back so drying my hair with hairdryer and separate brush is a nightmare and I stopped doing it. But this 'amazing' gadget is a must have girls! My hair is naturally curly and took me 20 minutes to dry and style. Very lightweight. Drys easily and styles as you use it. My hair is silky and looks in excellent condition. Not frizzy, as I thought it would turn out to be. I can honestly say it’s worth every penny."

  • "I am usually next to useless and cack handed when it comes to hair stylers but this thing is amazing! Yes when you get it out of the box you think the brush is huge, but it’s easy to manoeuvre and quite lightweight. It dries hair very quickly and the added bonus is that you can style as you dry. My hair straighteners have hardly had a look in since I received this."
