Alibaba invests US$15b for tech lab in Singapore

Alibaba invests US$15b for tech lab in Singapore

Its R&D will cover data intelligence, IoT, and fintech.

Retail giant Alibaba will open one new technology research lab in Singapore through its new program Alibaba DAMO Academy.

According to a press release, Alibaba will invest more than US$15b in research and development over the next three years.

Singapore is just one of the seven locations where the Academy will establish its labs. The others are Beijing and Hangzhou in China, San Mateo and Bellevue in the US, along with Moscow, Russia and Tel Aviv, Israel.

The labs will focus on both foundational and disruptive technology research including data intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), fintech, quantum computing and human-machine interaction.

The labs will also work on focus areas like machine learning, network security, visual computing, and Natural Language Processing (NLP).

The Academy will also look for 100 researchers to work in its labs.
