5 Toxic Habits To Get Rid Of ASAP

This article was originally on GET.com at: 5 Toxic Habits To Get Rid Of ASAP

All of us have good and bad habits, and it's important to identify and distinguish the bad habits so that you can get rid of them before they hinder your life. Can Singaporeans' incessant chase (and hourly queues) for new food fads like the recent Bake Cheese Tarts be considered as one of Singaporeans' national habits? Not that I'm complaining about the reported 2-hour queue, but I'm just waiting for the queue to normalise someday before sinking my teeth into those luscious-looking tarts.

To cut the long story short, we all have habits - both good and bad. Now that we've lived past a third of 2016, are there any habits you wished you didn't keep? Here, we at GET.com share with you 5 toxic habits that everyone and anyone ought to get rid of ASAP.

5 Toxic Habits To Get Rid Of ASAP

1. Making Excuses For Yourself

Whether it be losing those dreaded kilos that have piled up, embracing a vegan diet, picking up Photoshop or learning new IT courses online, there's no such thing that cannot be done. Especially when you haven't even even attempted to even give whatever you had in mind a shot. Stop making excuses for yourself and get cracking already. You'll never know what you can achieve unless you try.

2. Sticking Around Toxic People

When you allow yourself to be surrounded by toxic people, their negativity will ultimately rub off on you. That, my friend, is never a good thing to experience. Why succumb yourself to others' trashy behaviour if you have the power to move away? Getting rid of someone toxic who happens to be close to your heart may not be the easiest thing to do, but the future version of you will always be grateful to the current you.

3. Letting Your Debts Snowball

Debt is never a good thing to have in our lives. A debt is a burden to our bank balances whether we like it or not. And as much as we try to pay off our credit card debts or personal loans on time consistently, there could be times when we slip and forget, or simply run out of the means to pay them off.

If you're currently facing debt problems, you can use this checklist to get rid of debt! Put in your very best effort to clear those debts so that you and your family can lead a less burdensome life.

Here are the 3 best tips to help in clearing your debts in Singapore. Also, if you're new to credit cards, here are 4 basic things to know about credit card debt. A simple way to avoid credit card debt is to never spend more than you can manage to pay off in full by your credit card's due date.

4. Depriving Yourself Of Precious Sleep

This is one terrible habit that I, too, am guilty of. Most of us don't pay enough attention to the amount of time we're clocking in bed and that's precisely the reason why we are always struggling to fight off the Z monster every single day at work or in school.

Not only are we not letting our fatigued bodies rejuvenate and rest the way they should, we are likely less productive tackling all the other important things in life that demand our utmost focus and attention.

If you've been trying to go to sleep earlier and sleep better, to no avail, do check out these 5 things that you can do in order to achieve your new-found-goal to sleep better. Try them out to see if they work for you.

5. Living For Others Instead Of Yourself

It is always a good idea to live for yourself and do the things that make you truly happy instead of gaining approval from everyone and anyone just because you feel obliged to.

If I could turn back time, I'd definitely pursue journalism instead of economics at university because writing (and reading) are the things that keep me happy, motivated and fulfilled. I guess I'm pretty lucky to be able to write full-time.

If there's something that you've been yearning to do, do it. If going on a backpacking trip around the world has constantly been encroaching in your logical and pragmatic head, do it if you can! After all, life's too short to be regretting things that we didn't do.

We live for ourselves and create opportunities for ourselves. Just keep your chin up and keep trying till you succeed.
