5 Netflix shows to binge this weekend

If you’re a Netflix or OTT buff like me, you are going to love these recommendations. From comedy to real-life criminal investigations to emotional and gripping shows. This list of 5 binge-worthy shows on Netflix India is sure to satisfy the ‘chiller' in you.

Now, let's take a closer look at what each of these shows have to offer:

Kim’s Convenience

Kim’s Convenience is a Canadian sitcom set in Toronto, Canada. It is based on a Korean family who run a convenience store in the city. The show sees highs and lows in relationships, family dynamics, ethnic references, Korean food, and a whole lot of light humour. If you’re looking for something light and amusing to binge on, this could be a good choice for you. Also, just in case you don’t know much about Korean culture, the show could definitely give you a few hints and clue you in to their food and homes. In my view, it also explores the struggles faced by an ethnic group in a foreign country, albeit in a very subtle manner.

The People v. O. J. Simpson

Based on true events, The People v. O. J. Simpson: is the first season of the FS True Crime anthology, based on the murder case involving O. J. Simpson. The star cast includes industry stalwarts like Cuba Gooding Jr. as O. J. Simpson, Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian and John Travolta as Robert Shapiro, only to name a few.

The season received 22 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, in 13 categories, winning 9 awards! It’s gripping, to say the least, and the actors took on the characters and mirrored the actual case as closely as possible. This is a true nail-biting, binge-worthy show.

Startup

Starring Adam Brody, Startup has 3 Seasons, which follow a very novel, and current concept of cryptocurrencies. It focuses on ‘GenCoin’ an idea that is based on digital currency and is being delved into by 3 strangers who don’t really have the best tech minds. An off-beat FBI agent is on to these 3 and will go the distance to take them down.

Feel Good

The show explores a gay romance based in Manchester, between Mae Martin, a Canadian comedian (who plays a version of her real life here) and George, an English woman who is repressed. The pair find love in each other, but George finds out about Mae’s past as a former drug addict only later. She encourages her to attend Narcotics Anonymous.

The series revolves around the struggles of being gay even today, and beautifully explores an intimate relationship and the baggage that come with it. Extremely relatable and beautifully directed and performed.

The Kominsky Method

My all time favourite, The Kominsky Method, created by the genius, Chuck Lorre, stars Michael Douglas as the main character. Alan Arkin pairs beautifully with his character and is a key part of the first 2 seasons.

Douglas plays an ageing actor, who enjoyed erstwhile fame and is now an acting coach. It is a beautiful comedy-drama, exploring the importance of great friendships, relationships, self-actualisation and last but not least, the realisation of ones dreams.

In Season 3, Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas) realises his dream and wins an award for acting in a film after ages. This series is a must-watch, with witty, smart dialogue and a little unexpected twist around every corner.
