Being in a relationship is never easy, there'll be lots of happy as well as heartbreaking moments - but if both parties truly love each other, they'll work extra hard to overcome obstacles and challenges no matter what may come.

Keeping the spark alive and blitzing is vital even if commitments become increasingly taxing. Did you know that there were 7522 divorces and annulments in Singapore in 2015? 4 Priceless Things Couples Can Do To Keep Their Relationship Alive

1. Always Be Kind To Each Other

Even though it's a natural give-and-take thing that we have to deal with in any relationship, romantic or not, it doesn't hurt to always treat each other with kindness and warmth. When we genuinely care for the other party, there's no limit to how much kindness we extend to him or her.

I'm not asking you to shower your other half with a million different presents all the time. Being kind also doesn't cost you any money as you can be kind in your thoughts, deeds and words.

I've had my share of feeling broken in the past because of lousy guys but I can't be more thankful for my boyfriend of 6 years (and counting) who's taught me how to be a better person and how to love as fiercely as he does.

Anyhow, if you're blessed to have a special someone by your side whom you want to grow old with, hold on to that person and work things out even if you do end up squabbling at times!

2. Make Time For Each Other

Making time for each other is an incredibly important ingredient in keeping the spark alive in your relationship no matter whether you're newly dating or if you've been with the same person you've set your heart and eyes on since college (ahem, the latter's my situation).

What's the secret besides loving each other? Listen, talk, and spend time with each other. Strive to spend time with each other no matter how busy you may be.

Nobody's saying that you have to have a heart-to-heart-talk for 2 hours straight at any one time, but it sure doesn't hurt to talk about anything and everything that comes to mind, including what you ate for lunch, that hilarious joke your brother sent you that morning, that new quaint little cafe that has a zillion raving reviews, et cetera. Just be tactful and don't blurt hurtful things even though you genuinely didn't mean to!

3. Hold Hands Even When You're 80-Years-Old

Don't be afraid to show your love to your other half. Be it a little peck on the forehead, a grateful hug, or holding hands, your partner deserves your affection and attention.

These innocent acts may not seem like much, but they go a long way in keeping your heart aflutter and excited to have each other as company especially when we all have more and more responsibilities to shoulder as we take on the world.

These affectionate little acts also help in keeping couples feeling more connected to each other - that's always a good thing.

4. Have Fun Together

Fun is an essential element in any relationship, really. I can't imagine anyone who's okay with being in a monotonous relationship that's filled with little to no fun. Embark on new experiences with each other and just have fun together whenever possible.

Put in some effort to inject fun times with each other every now and then to keep the relationship feeling fresh! Of course, everybody's idea of fun is different so figure out what works best for you and your other half.

Try incorporating inside jokes so that the both of you will feel closer and happier. Inside jokes are called inside jokes for a reason; they're things secret and exclusive to only both of you! It will also help if your other half is also your best friend, as is the case for me.
