There’s nothing quite like an enjoyable weekend, especially one that doesn’t cost much or is absolutely free!

With that in mind, we have come up with some of our favourite cheap things to do once the weekend rolls in.

1. Wallow in a water park

Things can get hot in the city, so why not cool off at one of Singapore’s water parks. Big water theme parks like Wild Wild Wet and Adventure Cove Waterpark can be fun, but expensive at the same time.

Thus, we suggest heading off to Singapore’s first indoor water playground at Safra Punggol. The newly-opened playground covers 24,000 sq ft with multiple play decks, five slides and a themed splash pad. A family package, for two adults and two children. costs between $16 (for members, off-peak) to $40 (non-members, peak).

2. Grab a picnic

One look at the National Parks Board website tells you that there are many parks around Singapore. Parks are a great place to relax with friends and family, so pack a brunch and while away the time amidst the greenery.

3. Go to Singapore’s ‘best’ attraction

Are you a fan of art? Why not go to National Gallery Singapore and check out the amazing artworks on display? There are always creative events going on, many of which are free for Singaporeans and PRs.

4. Hit the beach

There is one thing good about Singapore’s tropical weather – it makes you want to hit the beach and soak up some sun. You’ll feel refreshed and rejuvenated after a day at the water’s edge.

5. Be a student

Universities aren’t the only place where you can improve your skills. Many people have turned to online education to pick up relevant skills such as Excel and Programming etc. Khan Academy even provides these materials for free if you are talking about school subjects like Algebra or Microeconomics, etc.

6. Café-hopping

Café-hopping has become a very popular weekend activity for many. If you are adventurous enough to hunt for cafes situated in remote areas, you might find one that is pretty affordable. If not, you can always find cafes below $12 here.

7. Window shopping

You don’t have to spend money to enjoy shopping. Indeed, why not plan your next purchase through the windows of your favourite stores?

8. Get some quiet time at the Library

Find a local library and catch up on some reading, removing yourself from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

9. Taste the Countryside

Take the opportunity to escape the city and explore the ‘countryside’ of Singapore. You can even go for a tour of the various farms and buy their fresh produce at the end of it. Find out more here.

10. Chill Out at Home

Imagine working hard the entire week. Now is the perfect time to chill out and laze around at home. Personally, that is also what I do to help me relieve all my pent-up stress over the week. Just don’t forget to have your movie or a book with you.

Conclusion

Weekends can get expensive but if you look hard enough, you can sometimes have more fun at less-than-normal expenditure. So, get creative, get out, and start experiencing what Singapore has to offer you on the cheap.
